Filter Maintenance and Replacement for You Pool and Spa
First is a sand filter, in which water is forced through sand to remove any debris and runs out a set of tubes at the bottom. During this process the clean water is sent out the tubes at the bottom while the dirty water stays on the surface. As your filter gets dirty the water the pressure inside will increase and result in a low flow. To clean the filter you back wash it and rinse all the dirty water out, normally this needs to be done about once a month. When referring to the most effective filter this one is the least effective as it allows the smallest particles to run back in to the pool.
Next is the Cartridge filter, the best thing about this filter is that it is low maintenance and economically friendly. These filters work just as a water filter for your fridge. Inside the filter is a fine material that filters out debris and small particles as the water runs through. These filters also allow more water to run through crating less back up in to your pump and less maintenance. These filters on the other hand don’t tend to last long although there are some for purchase that can last up to five yours. Typically these filters need rinsed and maintained anywhere from once a month to once a season depending on your pool usage and area. The cartridge filters rank about second best at filtering out as much debris and bacteria as possible.
Lastly we have a Diatomaceous Earth filter that is made of fossilized exoskeletons of tiny diatoms mined from the ground. These filters work like sleeves in your filtration system and have the smallest particles filtered out of your water. Typically these filters work in a similar fashion as the sand filters and need back washed regularly and recharged with more Diatomaceous Earth powder.
So what filter is best depends on each clients needs and definition of best filter. Our trained technicians will help every client pick the best filter for their family and their pool.
